Run Melissa, Run

A friend of mine in Mississippi has a daughter with Rett Syndrome. It as a form of autism that is normally only in girls. October is Rett Syndrome awareness month and to honor their daughter Mary Claire and others with Retts, she is having a fund raiser called "Miles for Mary Claire" asking everyone she knows to get sponsors and do a walk/run to help raise money for the cause. I decided to do a 5k trail run in Napa Valley. It was the first time I have ever done anything like this and I was pretty nervous. Eddie & the boys came along to cheer me on. When we pulled up I wondered what I had gotten myself into.

All registered and waiting for my race. Of course I enjoyed all the hot air balloons that were up that day.

Headed out to the trail. The elevation was brutal. Good thing I didn't know that before I started, it would have scared me off.

Still smiling - I won't post the picture of me headed to the finish...I look pretty funny-well let's day determined.

Wow....I got 2nd place in my age bracket and 11th overall in the race with 60+ runners. Who knew I would actually be pretty good at this. :)

The boys were proud of me. Leading up to the race they kept asking me if I was going to win. I'd tell them "no" I just want to finish the race. The night before Cameron said he'd pay me $3 if I'd at least pass 1 person. Well, I think he owes me more than $3.
It was awesome running the race and it felt so good that I was doing it for such a good cause!

Great run Melissa. I had never heard of Rett's before. I am so proud of you and having your family there to cheer you on is such a reward whether you go 1 mile or 2. Love it and congratulations..this is probably just the beginnng of your running journey.
